NEW YORK — Nearly one out of every five Democrats thinks the world will be better off if America loses the war in Iraq, according to the FOX News Opinion Dynamics Poll released Thursday.

Democrats can't really mean this, can they? Are they that short sighted to believe that the Mideast and the world will be better off with run amok Islamo-Fascisim and a renewed will for the terrorists to commit murder of innocent people in the name of Allah. The fact of the matter is that a stable Iraq (if not a democratic one) is essential to peace in that part of the world.
I want the war in Iraq to end as much as anyone. But it has to be with some assurances that the people there can be safe from religious tyranny.

It may be time for you to refresh yourself on the history of the U.S. Revolution. If people want change, they must be willing to fight for it. If the French had stepped in with massive forces, the Republic may not have formed as strongly. The U.S. rallied behind the success against the British and that momentum carried forth to provide one of the strongest nations in history. It is not worth it, if you are not willing to die for it.
The question itself is too ambiguous to answer. Winning? Losing? If only any of this were so simple.
I think we have already lost because there are now Islamic extremists in a country where they weren't before we meddled. Saddam wasn't a good guy, but he was not a religious extremist, and he did not tolerate those people in his country. Women could drive and go to college and be doctors and lawyers. Christians were protected from persecution.
Now Iraq is going to be one more Islamic Extremist America-hating country, and everyone will suffer for it.
The Bush administration could have committed the troops necessary to secure Iraq and prevented this whole mess, but they were more interested in sending their corporate cronies to loot and pillage.
At this point, we have two options, not for winning, but for minimizing the damage:
1) Get the hell out of that unholy mess and hope for the best.
2) Commit the massive amount of money, troops and resources needed over the next couple of decades to secure the country and facilitate the placement of a strong, secular centralized government.
A continuation of the already failed Bush policy of trickling in just enough troops to keep up the front of a "war" while corporations like Halliburton continue to rob the American taxpayers through no-bid contracts on half-assed or flat-out phony construction projects will only fuel the flames of this monstrous human disaster, and the world will in no way be better off.
