"A Mexican Visitor's Lament"

From Tina Griego, Journalist for the Denver Rocky Mountain News 10/25/07.

She was interviewing Mexican journalist Evangelina Hernandez while visiting Denver last week. Hernandez said,

"They (illegal aliens) pay rent, buy groceries, buy clothes...what happens to your country's economy if 20 million people go away?"

That's a good question it deserves an answer. Over 80 percent of Americans demand secured borders and illegal migration stopped. But what would happen if all 20 million or more vacated America? The answers may surprise you!

*In California, if 3.5 million illegal aliens moved back to Mexico, it would leave an extra $10.2 billion to spend on overloaded school systems, bankrupted hospitals and overrun prisons. It would leave highways cleaner, safer and less congested. Everyone could understand one another as English became the dominate language again.

*In Colorado, 500,000 illegal migrants, plus their 300,000 kids and grand-kids would move back "home," mostly to Mexico. That would save Coloradans an estimated $2 billion (other experts say $7 BIL) annually in taxes that pay for schooling, medical, social-services and incarceration costs. It means 12,000 gang members would vanish out of Denver alone.

*Colorado would save more than $20 million in prison costs, and the terror that those 7,300 alien criminals set upon local citizens. Denver Officer Don Young and hundreds of Colorado victims would not have suffered death, accidents, rapes and other crimes by illegals.

*Denver Public Schools would not suffer a 67 percent drop out/flunk out rate via thousands of illegal alien students speaking 41 different languages. At least 200,000 vehicles would vanish from our gridlocked cities in Colorado.

*Denver's four percent unemployment rate would vanish as our working poor would gain jobs at a living wage.

*In Florida, 1.5 million illegals would return the Sunshine State back to America, the rule of law and English.

*In Chicago, Illinois, 2.1 million illegals would free up hospitals, schools, prisons and highways for a safer, cleaner and more crime-free experience.

If 20 million illegal aliens returned "home" --

If 20 million illegal aliens returned "home," the U.S. economy would return to the rule of law. Employers would hire legal American citizens at a living wage. Everyone would pay their fair share of taxes because they wouldn't be working off the books. That would result in an additional $401 billion in IRS income taxes collected annually, and an equal amount for local state and city coffers.

No more push '1' for Spanish or '2' for English.

No more confusion in American schools that now must contend with over 100 languages that degrade the educational system for American kids.

Our overcrowded schools would lose more than two million illegal alien kids at a cost of billions in ESL and free breakfasts and lunches.

We would lose 500,000 illegal criminal alien inmates at a cost of more than $1.6 billion annually. That includes 15,000 MS-13 gang members who distribute $130 billion in drugs annually would vacate our country. In cities like L.A., 20,000 members of the "18th Street Gang" would vanish from our nation. No more Mexican forgery gangs for ID theft from Americans! No more foreign rapists and child molesters!

Losing more than 20 million people would clear up our crowded highways and gridlock. Cleaner air and less drinking and driving American deaths by illegal aliens! Drain on America's economy; taxpayers harmed, employers get rich. Over $80 billion annually wouldn't return to their home countries by cash transfers. Illegal migrants earned half that money untaxed, which further drains America's economy which currently suffers an $8.7 trillion debt.

At least 400,000 anchor babies would not be born in our country, costing us $109 billion per year per cycle. At least 86 hospitals in California, Georgia and Florida would still be operating instead of being bankrupted out of existence because illegals pay nothing via the EMTOLA Act. Americans wouldn't suffer thousands of TB and hepatitis cases rampant in our country brought in by illegals unscreened at our borders. Our cities would see 20 million less people driving, polluting and grid locking our cities.

It would also put the "progressives" on the horns of a dilemma; illegal aliens and their families cause 11 percent of our greenhouse gases. Over one million of Mexico’s poorest citizens now live inside and along our border from Brownsville, Texas to San Diego, California in what the New York Times called, colonias or new neighborhoods. Trouble is, those living areas resemble Bombay and Calcutta with grinding poverty, filth, diseases, drugs, crimes, no sanitation and worse. They live without sewage, clean water, streets, electricity, roads or any kind of sanitation.

The New York Times reported them to be Americas new Third World inside our own country. Within 20 years, at their current growth rate, they expect 20 million residents of those colonias.

By enforcing our laws, we could repatriate them back to Mexico.
We invite 20 million aliens to go home, fix their own countries and/or make a better life in Mexico. We invite a million people into our country legally more than all other countries combined annually. We cannot and must not allow anarchy at our borders, more anarchy within our borders and growing lawlessness at every level in our nation.

Its time to stand up for our country, our culture, our civilization and our way of life.

You obviously do not see the larger issue. I have nothing against Legal visitors to this country. People are welcome if they obey the law just like you or I would have to in their country.

What I'm really against is people coming here and becoming a burdon on our society.

Typical.

First reaction to someone idealized is to name call, racist, to analysis of economic sociological costs.

I know of a man who owned one Limousine for his livelihood. He was struck by an illegal mexican. He was able to leave the state without any consequence despite his disposition was clear identified as a possible flight risk.

To the person calling racist who feels the pain of people struggling for a better life, to him, this entrepreneur/business owner is a racist, despite his injuries and his totaled limousine means he has no livelihood, all because people like him don't want to secure boarders.

Had the illegal been in the country legally he would have faced the same consequences as you and I where a flight risk is taken to jail and required to pay a bond, as opposed to city policy that ignores the problem. Hospitals are closing because they can't bear the costs regulations require them to bear. Health professionals are loosing jobs. These are all costs to society over a feeling for people who place a drain society.

It's hard to believe that having read the article, their only comment is 'wow you are racist'. He/she obviously doesn't know the meaning of the word 'racist';

1. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
2. Discrimination or prejudice based on race.
There is no discrimination or prejudice in the above article, only estimates of the impact of the burden put upon this country by the presents of millions of illegals. There is a world of difference between the term 'racist' and actual facts. Facts are not 'racist', they are merely truth. I think that if more people would be less concerned about being called 'racist' we would be better off. Remember 'sticks and stones'?

To anyone that finds displeasure with this article, I can only say that they should look up the meaning of the word 'illegal'. The illegal immigrants mentioned are here ILLEGALLY. Wake up
America!!

This is ludicrous. How dare you refer to the sleepy border towns as Calcutta or Bombay.

My sister in law has family in one of those sleepy little border towns.

What is it you are referring to? Have you gone there? Or are you like Tancredo and call Miami a "3rd world country."

So Ludicrous. No wonder they call your reference the R word!!

Anonymous,
Your reference to:
"He was struck by an illegal mexican" is totally ludicrous. Are you talking about an illegal immigrant? OR are you talking about Americans who are Hispanic? Which YOU term as Mexican? If he is Mexican, he is Mexican. If he is American, he is American. If his papers have expired, then his papers expired.

Additionally, are you to blame, as a white, American male, for BTK or Ted Bundy or Gacy? If not, why are all 12M of those here whose papers are expired guilty of the crime of 1?

Your references makes NO sense. No sense at all!!

Obviously you have never studied the history of immigration in this country.
Otherwise you would not sit on your lofty high horse and repeat the tired old adage, "anyone who does not understand the meaning of illegal."

Immigration laws are broken due to our government´s “contrived incompetence” and greedy business owners and this has been going on for over 100 years. Check out the Immigration Act of 1924. The Administration who is not serious about enforcing immigration law and businesses who want to continue with status quo, reap the gains and continue to side step Immigration laws. We have 12 – 20M illegal immigrants here in our country now. Many of them have been here for 5 to 20 years, many with citizen children, many who have no country to which they can safely return.

We need a Plan, some sort of Comprehensive Immigration Reform Plan that acknowledges:
1. We cannot continue status quo.
2. We do need to secure borders.
3. We do need to ensure employers are following the law and severely sanction them if they do not.
4. We do have jobs Americans won´t do (e.g. AgJobs) and therefore we do need IMPROVED IMMIGRATION POLICIES - Guest Worker programs, with e-Verify capabilities.
5. We cannot mass deport 12M people, given the History, Therefore, we need some type of plan that allows those that are felony free to register, at a minimum, in an e-verify Guest Worker program. Note: once this is done, there will not be a need for the heinous Detention Centers and multi millions will be saved by eliminating the costs of these crony owned Private Prisons.

6. We cannot have people with wrong agendas pushing locality by locality laws. (e.g. MMs who pushed Oklahoma, AZ)
7. We cannot have racial profiling or laws that negatively impact our citizens.

I think someone needs to get their facts straight and stop calling all illegals Mexican... many of their comments generalize that so many illegals... but they do not say Mexican illegals. there are plenty of other races that make up "illegal."
So boo hoo someone go hit by an illegal mexican....I know someone who walked away from hitting someone and they are legal...but no license...can i kick them out of the country too?
these illegals are doing the jobs that most North Americans won't. I know people in the lanscaping business who have sought out Anglos to keep diversity and what do they say..."are you kidding me....I'm not working that hard and in the sun!" They were also the least dependable and dishonest, but you don't see me calling all Anglos dishonest and undependable. So please do not confine your description of "illegals" to only Mexicans.
Illegal immigrants are a reality..Im sure if you'd like them more if they paid taxes.
Also, I have been to the places in Texas that border the US and I can assure you that anyone from there would be insulted by you calling them shanty towns and comparing them to Calcutta. Especially they are growing and thriving despite the shortsided opinions that have tried to label them as otherwise.

These illegals, come here year after year, abuse our elderly, rape our land and our children DO YOU REALLY NEED TO BITCH ABOUT WHERE THEY COME FROM/// THEY COME IN FROM EVERYWHERE. THE NEXT QUESTION IS WHAT DO WE AS A NATION NEED TO DO NOW????

I quote: "Additionally, are you to blame, as a white, American male, for BTK or Ted Bundy or Gacy? If not, why are all 12M of those here whose papers are expired guilty of the crime of 1? "

Each and every person, regardless of race/creed/origin is a criminal just by being here! Yes each and every one of them is a criminal...just as I would be if I entered Mexico illegally. Try looking up Mexico's (and most other countries around the world) and see how they handle illegal immigrants. I dare you!

Jobs Americans won't do? Are you fricken kidding me? Who do you think was doing those jobs before the illegal invasion? They were done by ordinary Americans, who were priced out because illegals would work for 10 cents a bushel less, and when they tried to match that price they were denied because that would mean business owners would have to go back to paying taxes.

Saying that ignorant statement completely negated the entire rest of your post to me. Obviously, Americans not only can and will do those jobs, but many would be happy to have a job to do. Saying anything to the contrary is just retarded.

in a better more logical world,we could and should require all aliens to become legal americans as the rest of us.
enforcing this is at the moment not possible and our political and law enforcement entities are neither competent or capable of getting it done.

J.A., Most of this post was taken from an article by Tina Griego, Journalist for the Denver Rocky Mountain News and I agree with the vast majority of her comments. Immigrants should have to follow the letter of the law. As you alluded to, the Mexican immigration laws are so strict that it's almost impossible to become a citizen there.

"Anonymous" from 5-23-10, I agree whole heartedly with your statement. If not for illegal aliens those jobs would most certainly be filled by US citizens. After all someone has to do it and it should be Americans!

"Anonymous" from 6-2-10, Yes we aren't ready for this task. We have to ramp up to this job. Our legal citizens deserve no less.

Since you are not against LEGAL visitors to this country, do you actually know what it takes to get a visa to come to the US? My American husband wanted to visit my home country Brazil and there were no barriers to get one. Try finding out how hard is to get a tourist visa to visit the US, never mind a work visa.... I see on a daily basis US AMERICAN CITIZENS committing the same "crimes" to their homeland.... By the way, you and Tina Griego forgot to mention about all the money "illegal" immigrants are depositing into the Social Security Administration’s account and as long as they are "illegal" they will NEVER see any benefits from it. Just like US Americans some pay taxes and some don't! WAKE UP YOU ALL and look at the true facts....

did anyone bother to actually read what she wrote? Check this out http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2007/oct/25/griego-mexican-visitors-lament-our-best-hands/

The article was actually written by Frosty Wooldridge, a cook who is concerned with overpopulation but doesn't say a thing about birth control!

-Anonymous from 7-1-2010, Thank you for your comment and also for turning me onto Frosty. There are some interesting pieces on his website.

But you are wrong about him being the author of this specific piece. It was written by Tina Griego, Journalist for the Denver Rocky Mountain News, published on 10/25/07. I have had some slight contact with her regarding using her article on my blog, so I know that she is the original author.

The larger issue is exactly correct. After reading all of the comments it reminds me that every human is but a speck of sand on the beach as for opinions. Yet a beach is still a beach "the larger issue". One of the larger issues is that the cost - or + is out of balance. The cost of illegal occupation of another country far outweighs the benefit. It would greatly benefit the "problem" if Hispanics who are here in the U.S. and those who are here illegal to band together and discipline those Hispanics who are part of the problem. When Hispanics reduce a problem from within then it begins to tip the scale more of a positive. Otherwise those who look the otherway are as guilty. IF, south of the border happened to be any other nation it would be similar except that the Governments would be different. The U.S. does not have a problem with Canadiens nor they with us. It is not government corruption that corrupts the individual, the individual can just as easily corrupt themselves. The U.S. has enough problems with ourselves why intentionally bring in more? The lament of a United States citizen is enough is enough who ever you are. Legal or otherwise. Grow up, decorrupt yourselves and do not tolerate others who add to the problem. far too many of the 20 million are allowed to ruin the our generosity. The good law abiding foriegn born must not tolerate their own kinds poor behaviour. I am a proud white American and I have enough trouble making my own race behave, we need help, not denial.
