Absolut Mexico? No - Absolut-ly Wrong!

A new advertising campaign by Swedish vodka maker Absolut shows a North American map as it appeared before the Mexican-American war of 1848 where after the United States annexed what is now the southwestern states.

Are they serious? Did some ad exec come up with this idea after consuming vast quantities of the product? Or is it some open borders proponent's geopolitical fantasy?

This goes to show how multi-national companies are starting to view America. They must feel that our time is upon us to be showing this kind of disdain for our nation. Or are they just pandering to the illegals in America to gain a larger market share?

What next? Is Absolut going to advertise a map of the USA showing the Confederate States of America in the south?

I like that!

And truth be told, most of the people in America does not even know how to read a map.

I suspect the people most offended by this ad are in the northern parts of the US.

I've lived in Texas all my life and this is ... well, clever, really. Offensive? Hardly.

It's not just the ad that I find troubling, it's that it plays into the hands of those who are proponents of Aztlán.

Aztlán has become a symbol of Mexican activists who believe they have a legal and historical right to the land.

Not withstanding the foolishness aspect of this notion is that if you look at modern Mexico today it bears no resemblance to what has been achieved in Southern California.

Just think Silicon Valley.

I tend to agree, bluecat. Not to mention it always seems to be a bit troubling of late when we (as a nation) have the opportunity to glimpse how the attitudes of foreign nations (viewing us) have changed over the latest decade.
